The purpose of this position is to provide animal husbandry, observation of animals, recordkeeping, collecting samples for analysis, in addition to cleaning and facility care at the Rushmore, MN Farm Facility. Ability to work in a safe and respectful manner with swine and cattle.

- maintain accurate, complete, and legible records according to site SOP’s

- provide animal husbandry, i.e., feed, water, care, sanitation, socialization and observation of animals

- assist with research and quality control activities on animals including vaccinating, collecting blood, nasal, or fecal samples. Contact attending veterinarian and supervisor if any ill or injured animals are identified. Euthanasia of animals as required for sample collection.

- cleaning and disinfection of pens, barns, and associated equipment

- ability to work weekends and holidays, on a rotating position with other employees

Qualifications

Education:

- High School Diploma, or equivalent
Required :

- Minimum of 2 years working with swine and cattle in a production or test facility environment. Knowledge of food animal husbandry, health, and welfare is required. Ability to work in inclement weather including rain, snow, heat, and cold.

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted

- Ability to pass required tests for operating basic farm equipment including tractors, skid steers, feed wagon, etc

- Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with others in a team environment.

- Ability to maintain accurate and complete records

Preferred :

- Previous experience in a research environment.

- Advanced training, experience, or formal education in animal science and husbandry.
