Research associate in physical and mathematical modelling of biological processes
The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) offers a 3-year research associate position to model biological processes using methods from mathematics and theoretical physics.
The FMI hosts a number of high-profile groups focused on the spatial and temporal aspects of gene expression and molecular dynamics in developmental systems. To promote the full exploitation of state-of-the art quantitative data sets, the FMI Director's Special Project Fund supports this interdisciplinary position to establish and expand modelling approaches across FMI.
The successful candidate will work independently, reporting to Luca Giorgetti and Michael Stadler. As a highly motivated, intellectually curious individual who enjoys cross-disciplinary projects, you will have the opportunity to interact closely with experimentalists to shape and pursue a diversity of cutting-edge projects. You should have a solid background, including PhD, in theoretical physics, biophysics, mathematics or equivalent areas of expertise. Previous experience in modelling biological processes and familiarity with molecular biology are considered a plus, but are not mandatory. We expect excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in collaboration with the experimental teams. A very competitive salary will be provided.
