The purpose of the activity is to evaluate how the use of biological treatment processes based on

microalgae/bacteria consortia could affect the downstream disinfection and advanced

disinfection processes. Experimental laboratory and pilot experiments will be planned and

conducted to collect data required to determine the efficiency of disinfection processes on the

residual bacteria. Specifically, peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide will be used, even in

combination with ultraviolet radiation. To this aim, methods and protocols for measuring

disinfectant residues will be preliminarily developed. Disinfection tests will be then performed on

secondary wastewater samples from agro-industrial and urban origin.
