Chair, Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The University of Utah College of Pharmacy invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry plays a critical role in the major initiatives of the Health Sciences and the College of Pharmacy.  It is one of the most recognized departments of its type in the nation. Areas of research in the department include, among others, therapeutics design and targeting, polymeric drug delivery, nanomedicine, diagnostics, and gene therapy. The department has access to state‐of‐the‐art research facilities on campus, including the recently opened Skaggs Research Institute.  Excellent opportunities exist for collaboration with faculty in several internationally recognized institutes including the Huntsman Cancer Institute, School of Medicine, College of Engineering, the Nano Institute and Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute. The department, college and university are highly supportive of entrepreneurial activities of its students and faculty. The Chair will be expected to maintain a world‐class research program in an area broadly related to the major themes of the department. The Chair will provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the Department and have responsibility for the coordination and administration of the overall academic agenda and education activities in the department and college. Candidates will have either a Ph.D., PharmD, or M.D. degree (or combination thereof), a proven record as a leader, an international reputation for research accomplishments, committment to teaching excellence in subjects relevant to both graduate (Ph.D.) and professional (PharmD) programs in the College of Pharmacy, and excellent managerial and communication skills.  

Major responsibilities include:

  • Setting and executing the strategic direction for the Department
  • Participation and leadership to the Department in the areas of research, teaching, and service
  • Managing the departmental budget
  • Overseeing mentorship of Department faculty, residents, fellows, and students
  • Providing leadership within the College as a member of the Executive Committee
  • Working with faculty across the Health Sciences to enhance interdisciplinary research and teaching Salt Lake City offers an exceptional quality of life.
