Professor of educational sociology/social psychology or equivalent
The University of Stavanger is seeking a professor in permanent position in educational sociology, social psychology or equivalent. The position is organisationally affiliated to the Faculty of Arts and Education, the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research in Education (The Centre for Learning Environment). The position is available for an immediate start.
Duties and academic community
The subject area for the position is research and development work focused on the school learning environment. There is currently a lot of political and public interest in Norway in school development in general, and in development of a good learning environment in particular. The Centre for Learning Environment is working systematically with research and practice oriented development work in this field. We are one of the leading and most sought-after organisations in the field. Setting academic and professional standards when it comes to learning environment at schools in Norway, is our ambition.
The mandate of the Centre for Learning Environment is to assist national education authorities in implementing current education policies. The work by the Centre for Learning Environment shall at all times be contemporary and reflect the society and societal changes, which mark today's and tomorrow's childhood and youth, and later their adulthood.
Starting from the beginning of 2018 the Centre for Learning Environment will enter in a new, exciting phase. The Board's responsibility for the contents and substance of our work, will be transferred to the University of Stavanger (UiS). Tasks for the Centre will be defined by UiS, pursuant to the Norwegian Act relating to Universities and University Colleges. The strategic development of the Centre for Learning Environment will be subject to UiS' overall strategy. Research and education will be central areas. The work with practice-oriented competence and quality development in kindergartens and schools, will continue in accordance with UiS' strategic development of co-operation with society and cultural and business sectors.
Work tasks will comprise of research and development work initiated by the Centre for Learning Environment, as well as education in relevant subject areas in teacher training at UoS. Additional tasks may be assigned by The Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training.
As a professor, you will teach and supervise bachelor's, Master's and PhD students within education, educational sociology or social psychology, conduct research and disseminate research results within relevant research areas at the department, and contribute to the development of partnerships with businesses. You will also lead the development and use of varied and digital learning methods in teaching, innovation and value creation based on results from research, academic and artistic development work.
