The polynomial adaptivity in the numerical codes based on Galerkin's discontinuous finite element method

allows a large saving of computing resources. The aim of present project is the analysis of the

potentialities and limitations of this technique in the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of external compressible

turbulent flows. This is part of a long-term project devoted to the development of the open source

computing code FEMilaro, in collaboration with other departments and institutes (Mathematical

Mathematics, Max-Planck-Institut fr Plasmaphysik). The analysis will cover mathematical aspects of the

problem, coupling with turbulence LES modeling, and high performance computing aspects.
