Description: Laboratory Coordinator/Lecturer in Chemistry to begin August 2018.The primary responsibilities of this position are the management of teaching laboratories and the physical preparation of multiple sections of first and second year chemistry courses, including participation in the development and implementation of a new 200-level laboratory course focused on macromolecules. Management of the teaching laboratories includes supervision of laboratory preparation and undergraduate student workers, equipment maintenance, ordering, and compliance with environmental health and safety. The first semester of employment will be focused on setting up for the new Macromolecules course. Every semester thereafter, the position will include teaching laboratory and/or lecture courses.

Emory University is in the process of implementing an HHMI-funded curriculum redesign including an emphasis on the first two years of the chemistry major. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the laboratory curriculum of the future. In 2016, Oxford opened a state-of-the-art science facility designed to promote student-faculty collaboration, scholarship, and innovative teaching in STEM.

QUALIFICATIONS

A PhD in biochemistry or a closely related area at the time of appointment, with specific laboratory skills in molecular biology including the expression, purification, and characterization of bacterial proteins.

Individuals who have at least two years of experience training undergraduate students in the laboratory, interest in developing discovery-based laboratory experiences for undergraduates, and experience with the characterization of various types of biological polymers are encouraged to apply.
