Merck Animal Health, Millsboro, DE is a Biotechnology Center of Excellence that manufactures, fills, packages and distributes vaccines for animals. Our site is responsible for mammalian, insect and avian cell culture production, live bird vaccine production, embryonated egg vaccine production, roller bottle vaccine production, bioreactor vaccine production and down-stream processing (water in oil emulsions, aseptic filling, lyophilization, etc.)
The QC specialist is responsible for testing of vaccines and animal husbandry. The role also requires collaborating with Regulatory, Manufacturing, Analytical Tech Support (ATS), Bioprocess Tech Support (BTS) and R&D partners, as appropriate. Bench level activities as determined. A QC Specialist must possess thorough knowledge of the underlying principles used in testing procedures and understand the material being evaluated, i.e. virus, bacteria, cell line, etc.

Some of the duties may include, but are not limited to:

Demonstrates, at all times, safe work habits and maintains a safe work environment. Understands and complies with all regulatory, safety and company policies and procedures.
Perform investigations regarding testing methods and results.
Possess the ability to evaluate new procedures.
Maintain accurate and reliable record keeping including charts, log books, and all pertinent documentation
Communicate any unusual and/or non-routine occurrences when performing tasks
Write clear concise standard operating procedures


Education Minimum Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Relevant Biological Area (Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Bacteriology, Virology)

Required Experience and Skills:

Minimum of 5 years of Animal health industry experience

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft programs (Excel™, PowerPoint, and Word®).

Strong interpersonal, relationship building and leadership skills

Must have good communication skills

Ability to work independently and effectively with peers

Must be fluent in both written and spoken English

Animal husbandry knowledge and/or Aseptic Experience

Lab Safety knowledge/experience

Strong understanding of GMP requirements

Strong problem solving skills and analytical skills

Able to demonstrate organizational skills and is self-motivated

Applicants must be able to work flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the assay schedules, including weekend work.

Must possess a valid driver’s license

Selected candidate must go through security clearance process with the FBI/Department of Justice upon start. Continued employment is contingent upon successfully obtaining this clearance.

Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required per Safety Policy, as this role may involve contact with Hazardous Materials.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

Experience with statistical analysis

Understanding of USDA regulatory requirements
