German Centre for Integrative
Biodiversity Research (iDiv)
At the Faculty of Economics and Management Science of Leipzig University (UL) the following professorship has to be filled as soon as possible:
W3 - Professorship “Biodiversity Economics”
Integrative biodiversity research is interdisciplinary at heart, bridging different disciplines like biology, ecology, forestry, agriculture, economics, and social sciences. This requires a transdisciplinary program linking scientists to practitioners and decision-makers.
In particular, economics has been providing important contributions in fields such as ecological-economic modeling, valuation of biodiversity, financial mechanisms to conserve biodiversity, policy instruments and governance of biodiversity management, among others. The German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv), www.idiv.de, provides a unique environment to address this research frontier. Therefore, we are opening a professorship in Biodiversity Economics hosted by iDiv and affiliated with the Faculty of Economics and Management Science at Leipzig University.
Profile of ideal candidate: Candidates should have a strong track record in economic theory and quantitative methods with a visible profile in biodiversity economics, addressing both compositional and functional aspects of biodiversity. A strong record in interdisciplinary research and willingness to engage with colleagues in both natural and social sciences at iDiv and with stakeholders at the science-society interface are essential. Candidates are expected to contribute to the Bachelor and Master Programmes offered by the Faculty of Economics and Management Science.
Leipzig University emphasizes the equality of women and men. Handicapped applicants are encouraged to apply and given preference if equally qualified.
Rights and obligations of the jobholder are within the Saxonian university law (Sächsisches Hochschulfrei-heitsgesetz, SächsHSFG) and the Saxonian public service task Regulation (Sächsische Dienstaufgabenver- ordnung, DAVOHS).
