The research involves the design and synthesis of nitrogenated glycomimetics of interest as pharmacological chaperones for lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs), rare genetic diseases caused by partial deficiency of lysosomal glycolytic enzymes. The study will focus on amphiphilic iminosugars to be used in the treatment of Gaucher's disease (GD), the most common among LSDs, and on multivalent iminosugars built on different type of scaffolds (sugars, dendrimers, gold nanoparticles) active towards deficient enzymes in Morquio A and Hunter syndromes. The research program involves the synthesis of compounds and the preliminary evaluation of the biological activity towards human lysosomal enzymes.
