This HR Business Partner position in Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) will be an active, productive and influential member of a global HR team supporting broader Discovery Research at Merck and provide HR support for the expansion of our Discovery Strategy in South San Francisco, CA.

The HR, Associate Director will lead the HR initiatives, programs and operations in support of this expansion. This position will partner to drive all talent management strategies and programs including talent acquisition and development, rewards & recognition, employee engagement and retention, and organizational design.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Partner with Site Leadership to establish HR related programs that enable a strong collaborative culture of innovation, commitment and scientific exploration

- Partner with management & HR Colleagues on workforce planning strategies, hiring plans, recruitment & selection strategies and onboarding process

- Partner with Recruiting and Staffing to provide oversight on implementation of workforce hiring plan

- HR Business Partner support for the Biology Functions at the Site

- Coach managers on employee relations and culture matters

- Partner with CoE’s and administer local compensation & benefits programs

- Perform analytics on effectiveness

- Ensure compliance with all state & federal employment programs and practices

- Oversee HR Processes & Operations

Qualifications

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree
Required:

- Bachelor’s degree and at least ten (10) years’ experience as an HR Business Partner, in an HR COE or in HR Operations role - OR - Master’s degree and at least eight (8) years’ experience as an HR Business Partner, in an HR COE or in HR Operations role.

- Demonstrated HR functional competence in one or more HR disciplines

- Demonstrated ability to effectively influence, consult with and coach senior leaders and managers

- Ability to think strategically and still maintain an attention to detail

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to lead open and effective dialog and craft and deliver compelling messages internally

- Proven ability to demonstrate and foster collaboration among peers and extended HR organization

- Experience navigating and leverage HR systems to gather data to support client consultation

- Assertive, self-starter and independent quick-thinker
Preferred:

- Demonstrated experience in organizational development such as organizational design, change management

- Experience in the Healthcare or Health Services or related industry.

- Knowledge of local employment legal practices and policies

- Experience in start-up, innovative environment

- Established Network within the Bay Area Community
