How will you invent the future?

As a Data Science Specialist at Merck’s Austin IT HUB, you will be part of inventing tomorrow. Our Innovative centers are where great people come together and deliver solutions that save and improve lives.

You will:

- Work independently with minimal supervision developing and implementing innovative quantitative approaches for solving enterprise wide decision problems;

- Work closely with business areas participating in all phases of projects, including ideation, data discovery and preparation, data analytics, and communication.

You will also be responsible to:

- Design and executes quantitative projects by developing hypotheses and applying appropriate analytical methods with minimal supervision.

- Demonstrate clear motivation and focuses on achieving measurable, tangible results.

- Plan and coordinate work activities with others to maximize own and others’ results.

- Accept responsibility for mistakes, fix them, and learn from them.

- Follow the full intent and spirit of policies, procedures and guidelines.

- Support design and development of applications, platforms and business processes for scientific analytics.

- Understand company’s strategic vision, goals and direction; and exercise judgment in solving problems.

- Stay abreast of current industry best practices and trends

You will work and learn more about:

- Pharmaceutical business

- Data Analytics

- Development in various languages including Java, R, Python, Matlab or equivalent



- Bachelors Degree or higher.


- Minimum of two years of experience, in Data Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Sciences, or Engineering.

- Knowledgeable of standard statistical, mathematical, modeling, data mining and data analysis concepts, principles, approaches and software.

- Able to synthesize data from multiple sources to populate data models (e.g. conceptual, logical and physical data models) with minimal supervision.

- Able to translate findings into business terms and use data visualization to communicate findings/conclusions clearly.

- Experienced in implementing and validating analytical solutions via standard solution platforms such as Matlab, Mathematica, R, SAS, Python, Tableau or equivalent


- Aware of applications, platforms and business processes relevant to scientific analytics.

- Works with fellow data scientist team members to collectively and successfully complete tasks towards project deliverables.

- Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles is a plus
