How will you invent the future?

We are seeking a computer scientist with software production experience to design, implement, and deliver high quality software and systems to meet highly specialized business needs. This position provides an opportunity to understand and apply modern software development and design skills to important new capabilities that process and combine complex unstructured data into coherent business insights. The opportunity includes both hands-on development of distributed software services and streamlined performance tuning and security implementations to ensure reliable, trustworthy, and efficient processing.

The position brings together multiple forms of data processing, software services, rigorous testing, and visualization. This position will analyze existing code, develop, test, and continuously improve capabilities that provide important information services to automate web data analysis. Specialized computer science skills and experience in distributed and cloud computing, image processing, graph analysis, data visualization, and product outreach are important elements of this work. Of note, this work requires demonstrated experience in Microsoft Azure cloud services, network and application security, big data processing, OCR, feature extraction from multiple foreign languages, database design and performance tuning, database operations and recovery, and rigorous software development and operations processes. Technical experience is necessary to ensure rapid progress can be made in this important technical area.

The individual selected must show willingness and creativity to address unexpected challenges and opportunities as they arise. Through focus and understanding of high value business impacts, streamlined development process will be applied to deliver scalable solutions that clarify business needs, user suggestions, and software security updates for a core set of services. The ability to explore, prioritize, and simplify ambiguous and changing requirements with a focus on time-to-market will be a key measure of success for this role.
This position will report to the Applied Data Science Director in IT Planning and Innovation/Applied Technology.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to;

Analyze, assess, debug, develop, test, and manage complex, state-of-the-art software using modern development tools, methodologies, and services.

Maintain and improve existing architecture, applications and data processing systems, while evolving the services to meet future needs.

Combine and align features, functions, and user needs into effective capabilities that meet and exceed user expectations at low cost.

*
Address urgent priorities with interim solutions while simultaneously streamlining implementation of re-designed and configurable software and operations components.

*
Understand and implement rigorous secure design, testing, and compliance throughout the development process.

*
Capture and communicate needs, assumptions, and opportunities for applications development, deployment, and sustainment.

Qualifications

Education:

- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science

Required:

- A minimum of 5 years experience in hands-on software development of applications, services, and production software delivery experience.

- Demonstrated experience configuring, tuning, and operating Microsoft Azure cloud services and other cloud services.

- Familiarity with image processing and optical character recognition in multiple foreign languages.

- Awareness of big data and graph network analysis using modern development tools and methodologies.

- Experience in reliability, usability, and security of software services and applications that reduces complexity and speeds time to market.

Preferred:

- Familiarity with modern development methodologies, including one or more of agile, pair programming, test driven development

- Experience with advanced data science algorithms, geographically distributed parallel processing, data security and analysis, digital health applications, large scale graph data structures, integrated development and operations, and continuous system improvement and streamlined operations.

- Willingness to explore new approaches to application health and status monitoring, business dashboards, and user feedback.

- Expertise in Devops methodology automate support activities through scripts, tools, and streamlined development
