Novel adsorptive materials for convective chromatography
The project is focused on the preparation of novel material for the selective purification of biomolecules with chromatographic processes. The activities involve the preparation of membranes and monoliths and the development of a suitable functionalization protocol.
The novel materials will be characterized in terms of permeability, void fraction, functionalization efficiency and of the batch equilibrium adsorption capacity. The best materials will be then characterized in process conditions typical of affinity chromatographic processes for biomolecule purification. The best membrane candidates will indeed be functionalized with affinity ligands, like protein A and antibodies, but also with new generation ligands with affinity for antibodies of other biomolecules of interest. The obtained results will be compared with conventional microporous membrane supports and with ceramic monoliths that are currently under investigation in our laboratories.
