The Department of Marketing at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) invites applications for a vacant position as Assistant Professor in marketing and tourism research. The assistant professorship is time-limited to a period of three years. The Department of Marketing focuses on contributing to a holistic understanding of the interactions and activities in the marketplace, and, towards that end, we draw on other academic disciplines to the extent that these disciplines improve the quality of our marketing research. Applicants, who can demonstrate an international profile with evidence of cross-disciplinary marketing research with real impact on theory and/or practice, are especially welcome.

The research of the Department covers several areas such as consumer behavior, business-to-business marketing, branding, corporate social responsibility, design, international marketing, strategic marketing, neuro science, and tourism marketing. In addition, the Center for Tourism and Culture Management (TCM) is a research center under the Department of Marketing and focuses on understanding tourist behavior. Faculty members use a wide range of methods. The Department also is involved in teaching a palette of courses including branding, marketing strategy, digital marketing and sales management, business-to-business marketing, design, international marketing, and tourism marketing.

The assistant professorship will involve quantitative research and teaching in the areas of tourism, international marketing, and consumer behavior. The assistant professorship is a non-tenured position of three years with research and teaching obligations. A research and teaching interest and experience in the area of tourism is particularly important.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department. The successful assistant professor applicant is furthermore obliged to participate in the assistant professor program at CBS on teaching principles and methods in order to fulfill the pedagogical requirements made at the end of the term of employment as assistant professor.


•A main responsibility is the contribution to a significant tourist behavior project over the full duration of the professorship, situated in the Centre for Tourism and Culture Management (TCM) and led by Professor (mso) Alexander Josiassen.

•Becoming a member of and working with the Centre for Tourism and Culture Management (TCM).

•To publish in the higher ranked peer reviewed international journals (AJG -rank 4 or 4*), primarily in (but not restricted to) areas of tourism and international marketing.

•The academic development of the tourism research discipline.

•Working on research projects with other members of the Department of Marketing, as well as across CBS.

•Seeking and establishing research collaborations with international researchers.

•Teaching into existing CBS programs.

•Rejuvenating existing sessions, courses and teaching programs and contributing to innovative new ones.

•Promoting CBSs academic reputation.

•Initiating, fund raising and coordinating research projects

•Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the Department.

•Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBSs stakeholders in particular.

•Carry out research-based teaching and supervision.

•Discipline citizenship by, for example, active participation in the regular research activities at the department, CBS, and wider discipline community.

•The assistant professor is expected to contribute to the development and application of the research of the departments research areas and to maintain and strengthen CBSs international research position.


The successful applicant must hold or be close to obtaining a PhD and have an international profile. The applicant must have published in the higher-ranked journals (AJG -rank 4) in marketing and/or tourism. Particularly appreciated is a demonstrated ability to publish in the higher-ranked tourism journals. We seek an individual with independent research and project leadership skills which is well evidenced by having published first-authored articles. In order to be aligned with the expected responsibilities, the applicant must have a clear quantitative research approach. In addition, the applicant must have experience in teaching and thesis-supervision on the Master's level. Candidates with academic experience from several countries are particularly welcome.

The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken). The successful applicant must be willing to learn Danish so that after a three-year period he/she masters it at a conversational level.
