Through an interdisciplinary methodology, this study's aim is to demonstrate that the neuralgic element, on which Italy must invest, to remain among the leading industrial countries, consists of the intensification of relations between the research world and business. A greater efficiency and a better allocation of resources must be supported and stimulated by government intervention, in a close cooperation with the private world and that of research. To this purpose, it is necessary to shape the National Technological Cluster on the example of the Catapult Centres in the UK, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Germany and the Pôle de compétitivité in France.
