Fixed Term for 3 years, commencing February 2018


£32,094 per annum

Cranfield University is an exclusively postgraduate university that is a global leader for education and transformational research in technology and management.


This position is working on NERC's new and exciting greenhouse gas removal (GGR) programme investigating greenhouse gas removal from the atmosphere. The aim of the research is to assess GGR technologies related to the soil by applying consequential assessment for agricultural, agroforestry and forestry products and systems.


You will be within the Soils-R-GGREAT project which will carry out consequential life cycle assessments (LCA) of soil C technologies able to sequester CO2 emissions from the atmosphere, including the use of biochar. The overall aim of the project is to assess GGR technologies related to the soil by applying consequential LCA for agricultural, agroforestry and forestry products and systems.


You will be highly numerate with a PhD (or close to completion) in LCA, agricultural science, forestry, applied science, applied mathematics, economics or related subject. You will have proven expertise in life cycle assessment through publication or report preparation and expertise in economic models, techniques and methods, and ability to develop economic models.


An accepted or submitted publication in a relevant subject is necessary for this position. You should also have some knowledge of market equilibrium models, and sound knowledge of LCA software, Microsoft Excel and R statistical software, and be comfortable with mathematical models.
