The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Iowa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in bacteriology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This tenure-track position includes a 12-month salary, benefits, competitive start-up package, and modern laboratory facilities. Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and to participate in departmental teaching activities.

All applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D., postdoctoral microbial research experience, and a strong record of research accomplishments. Applicants at the Associate Professor level must already have an established and funded research program and demonstrate the ability to teach at graduate and undergraduate levels. Although all areas of bacteriology will be considered, we are particularly interested in individuals using cutting-edge approaches to study medically relevant bacterial pathogens with an emphasis on host-pathogen interactions, regulatory mechanisms, virulence mechanisms, and/or antimicrobial resistance.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology consists of 30 primary and secondary faculty members with strengths in molecular mechanisms of bacterial and viral physiology and pathogenesis, host responses to medically important pathogens, and cellular biology.
