The Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy at the University of Utah (http://medicine.utah.edu/neurobiology-anatomy/) is seeking an outstanding scientist for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of neuroscience focused on understanding neural circuit function in the behaving organism. This position is part of a new multi-disciplinary strategic cluster of hires across the School of Medicine, Bioengineering, and Psychology related to the Neural Basis of Behavior, Learning, and Memory, and is linked to a strategic initiative to further develop neuroscience at the University of Utah (www.neurogateway.utah.edu).
For this recruitment, we seek candidates using a multidisciplinary approach to studying brain function, including the use of advanced neurotechnologies such as optical probes, high-density electrode arrays, or molecular and genetic tools for monitoring or manipulating neural circuits in vivo. While the area of study is flexible, an ideal candidate would focus on investigating learning and memory or related processes such as sensation, neuromodulation or motor control, and spanning cellular and systems levels of analysis, including the impact of disease. The candidate may work in a variety of vertebrate model systems.
Individuals holding Ph.D. and/or M.D., or equivalent degrees, with at least two or more years of postdoctoral experience will be considered. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in research and strong record or potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding, commensurate with their career stage.
The department is vibrant and growing, with eight faculty added in the past six years, and is part of a robust campus-wide neuroscience community. Areas of expertise in the department include functional neuroscience utilizing molecular and genetic approaches, including neurogenesis and synapse formation, physiology and behavior, as well as analysis of embryonic patterning and development.
