We are seeking a highly motivated recent or pending MD and/or PhD graduate to work in a molecular and cellular neuroscience/stem cell lab for disease modeling using patient derived induced pluripotent stem cells. The ideal candidate will have experience in molecular and cellular biological techniques in neuroscience or stem cell biology. Our research goals are to further our understanding of the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases and to identify novel pathways and targets for the development of therapy. We use induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) from patients with Alzheimer’s Disease and other types of neurodegenerative diseases as our model system. We use multi-pronged approach including biochemistry, genetic editing, gene expression analysis and imaging. We have recently been funded to study ER stress in neurodegenerative disease using the human induced pluripotent stem cell model. UCSD provides an excellent environment for stem cell and neurodegeneration research, with Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine and the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
