The Genomic Medicine Institute (GMI) at the Cleveland Clinic (main campus) seeks to recruit 3 Faculty (primary research scientists and/or clinician-scientists) in the discipline of Pharmacogenomics, at any level, Assistant/Associate/Full Staff or Professor, who will join a growing team focused on developing research programs in this burgeoning area. The GMI currently includes a group of investigators in the following areas of genomics/epigenomics: cancer and benign blood disorders, epidemiology of neurodegenerative diseases, and regulation of CMV and HIV latency, as well as metagenomics encompassing microbiomics/mycobiomics and viromics. Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to join the existing Center for Personalized Genetic Healthcare within the GMI, including clinical geneticists and genetic counselors. They will have access to pharmacists and pharmacy-based clinical research support specialists, statistical and informatics support, outstanding Core facilities, and M.D. clinicians and subspecialists across the enterprise.

Candidates should have experience in designing and implementing clinical and/or lab-based research in an academic healthcare or industry setting, have either ongoing grant funding, prior funding, or demonstrable grant-writing experience (which might include fellowship or training grants), and have a strong publication record. Independent grant funding, and interest or experience in integrating Pharmacogenomics into clinical care are a definite plus. Excellence in collaborative science, academic writing, and communication skills (with proficiency in English) are a must.

Job Requirements

M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree (latter in Genetic Epidemiology, Epidemiology, Pharmacology or a related discipline) and/or a Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD)

Evidence of academic grant-writing, grant submissions, teaching or mentoring, and a strong publication record befitting the level of training

Verbal proficiency in the English language

The candidate is expected to have an ongoing research focus in Pharmacogenomics, defined as the study of how genes influence an individual’s responses to drugs. He/she should be able to design and conduct clinical or lab-based research focused on Pharmacogenomics of clinical phenotypes. For candidates interested in the clinical practice of Pharmacogenomics (e.g., in cancer, cardiology, and other medical fields), opportunities to collaborate on the design and implementation of clinical Pharmacogenomics protocols are also available.

Although independent funding is not an absolute requirement, the successful candidate must clearly demonstrate a career trajectory toward research independence (previous funding and/or ongoing applications for grant funding, publications, etc.). Other expectations include willingness to collaborate on research proposals, grant applications, and manuscripts, and if appropriate, assistance in supervising and mentoring junior Pharmacogenomics staff.

The Cleveland Clinic is an internationally recognized, not-for-profit, multi-specialty academic medical center that integrates clinical and patient care with research and education. It is ranked as the #2 hospital in the country by U.S. News & World Report.
