Postdoctoral Scholar

The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine seeks candidates for multiple Postdoctoral Scholar positions in the laboratory of Dao-Fu Dai, MD, Ph.D.

Our laboratory utilizes a genetically modified mouse model of heart failure and mitochondrial dysfunction to understand mechanisms of nutrient/energy sensor signaling in the protection of mitochondria. Findings will be used to design novel therapeutic agents to suppress disease in genetic cardiomyopathy and other heart failure models. This includes the use of genetically modified cardiomyocytes derived from induced pluripotent stem cells. Applicants should have a strong background in the use of genetic mouse models, as well as molecular and cellular biology. The selected candidate will be expected to work independently while interacting in a collaborative environment.

Education requirements:  Doctoral degree (PhD, MD/PhD or MD) with significant bench research experience.

Required qualifications:   Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Experience working with mice. Experience with general protein analysis and immunostaining.

Desirable qualifications:  Experience in developing and analyzing genetic mouse models, CRISPR/Cas technology, stem cell culture, in vitro cardiomyocyte studies, mouse survival surgery, Langendorff hanging heart system.
