Open Faculty Positions in College of Mechanics and Materials, Hohai University
The history of College of Mechanics and Materials (CMM) can be traced back to the setting up of three related teaching and research sections of Engineering Mechanics, Hydraulics and Engineering Materials, accompanying the founding of the East China Institute of Water Conservancy in 1952. CMM has developed a postdoctoral research center for Mechanics as first level discipline. Engineering Mechanics is a national key discipline, and Mechanics is first key level discipline of the Jiangsu Province. CMM comprises of two departments, six research institutes and one laboratory. Faculty includes 131 members, including 36 professors and 44 associate professors. Among them, two professors have been elected by the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, one professor by the Thousand Youth Talents Plan Project, and one by the China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists. About the College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower
The College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower originates from the Departments of Hydropower, Hydraulic Structure, and Hydromelioration of the East China Institute of Hydraulic Engineering founded in 1952; the first two components were combined into the Department of River Hydraulic Complex and Hydropower Structures in 1954; and the third one was renamed Department of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering in 1958. In 1985, the Department of River Hydraulic Complex and Hydropower Structures was renamed the Department of Hydropower Engineering. In 1995, after the internal adjustment of the University, the College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering was established as an integration of the Department of Hydropower Engineering, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, and the Research Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering. In 2009, the College took the present name for the requirement of academic development.
The college includes two Departments: Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, and Agriculture Water Conservancy Engineering. Currently, the college offers Doctorial programs leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in seven majors: Hydraulic Structure Engineering, Hydraulics and River Dynamics, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, Project Management of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering Construction, Agricultural Water and Soil Engineering, Agro-biological Environment and Energy-Source Engineering, and Agricultural Water and Soil Conservation. Among which the first three belong in the second-rank key disciplines of the Nation according to the classification. The college also offers graduate programs leading to the degree of Master of Science in Engineering in eight majors including seven ones same as above, and Soil Science. The College of Hydrology and Water Resources (CHWR) at Hohai University (HHU), China invites applications for multiple faculty positions in water sciences, to start as early as March 2017. The salaries will be internationally competitive and commensurate with candidates’ experience and skills.
Established in 1915, HHU is the leader of innovation and development of higher education in hydraulic engineering and water sciences in China. CHWR is a key component of HHU and is the first college established nationwide devoted solely to the study of water. The college is also key contributor of a national key laboratory and a national engineering center. Nanjing where HHU is located is the internationally recognized capital of Jiangsu province, one of the largest cities in China. Primary Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidates will teach and supervise students at all levels, while conducting independent, externally funded research programs in their fields of expertise. Support for developing an active research agenda is provided through start-up funds and departmental support. CHWR will provide strong supports to the successful candidates to apply for national and provincial research grants and talent programs (e.g. Thousand Talents Plan and Thousand Youth Talents Plan).
Experience & Qualifications
All candidates must hold a Ph.D. in hydrology, water resources, and other related fields.
- Senior candidates must be established leaders in their field with developed excellent research programs and demonstrate strong research and teaching experience.
- Mid-career candidates should demonstrate strong records of publication and funded research, and participation in collaborations.
- Early-career candidates with postdoctoral training are preferred and should demonstrate excellent academic credentials, strong research plan, and good ability to teach effectively.
