Faculty Positions in Bacteriology

The Department of Microbiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) (www.uab.edu/microbiology) invites applications from outstanding junior and mid-level scientists seeking tenure-earning or tenured faculty positions in microbiology. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of originality and productivity in research. Bacteriologists with a focus on respiratory tract infections and microbiome research are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will receive a highly competitive startup package and salary.

The Department of Microbiology is defined by a highly collegial group of scientists whose research focuses on microbial and viral pathogens as well as the immune system controlling these pathogens (www.uab.edu/bacteriology). UAB and the Department are leaders in medical research and NIH funding. Collaborations among basic scientists and between basic and clinical faculty are a strength of UAB and are stimulated by multidisciplinary centers such as the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, Program in Structural Biology, and the Center for AIDS Research. Other critical research support includes a campus-wide Program in Immunology, a world-class BSL3/ABSL3 facility, and a collaborative drug discovery program with neighboring Southern Research. This exceptional infrastructure offers an ideal platform for new faculty to quickly establish or advance their research programs. UAB is one of the largest public medical centers in the Southeast. Forbes has designated UAB as one of America's best large employers and rated UAB 5th among US universities as a place to work. For more information, see www.uab.edu/medicine/home/birmingham. A pre-employment background check investigation is performed on candidates selected for employment.

Interested candidates should apply at: http://uab.peopleadmin.com/postings/3044. Complete applications include a curriculum vitae, one-page research plan, three representative publications, and contact information for three references. Evaluation of applications will occur as they are received and will continue until the positions are filled.

UAB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer committed to fostering a diverse, equitable and family-friendly environment in which all faculty and staff can excel and achieve work/life balance irrespective of, race, national origin, age, genetic or family medical history, gender, faith, gender identity and expression as well as sexual orientation.
