As a Senior Software Engineer at Merck’s Austin IT HUB, you will be part of inventing tomorrow. Our Innovative centers are where great people come together and deliver solutions that save and improve lives.

We are seeking motivated talent interested in solving problems to improve tomorrow.

You will:

Be an active member of a team building leading edge applications in the scientific domain and services in the genetics, genomics, big data, analytics and mobility spaces.

Be responsible for bringing user experience, usability, and design to the mobile and desktop user experiences of those services.

Engage in visualization and multiple service "mash up" application design.

Understand and engage with world-class scientists in the research space.

You will work and learn more about:

Pharmaceutical business as it relates to basic research and pre-clinical drug development.

Laboratory Information Systems and how they operate within the context of drug development life cycle.



M.S. or B.S. or equivalent work experience in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, Math, or related fields. Exposure to biotechnology or life sciences like Molecular Biology is a big plus


5 to 10 years of relevant work experience, preferably including leading small to medium teams of developers.

Hands-on experience with Python, related frameworks (Django/Flask/Pyramid/etc...) and RESTful services.

Experience with software design patterns, architecture specifications and full software lifecycle.

Experience with full-stack software development.

Attention to detail and a passion for continuous improvement.

Interest in newest technologies and willingness to learn.
o Agile and lean product development mindset.
o Ability to understand strategic IT goals in order to be able to execute own tasks in support of technology integration initiatives.
o Ability to work independently with excellent communication skills that cross language/culture/geographic boundaries.
o Ability to interpret architecture designs and to abstract and define interfaces.
o Hands-on experience with a service oriented approach including RESTful services.
o Excellent attention to detail and a passion for continuous improvement

Ability to understand strategic IT goals in order to be able to execute own tasks in support of technology integration initiatives.

Ability to work independently, asynchronously (across time zones) and with excellent communication skills that cross language/culture/geographic boundaries.
