Scientist or Technical Scientist at ICliP, JAMSTEC
Department of Integrated Climate Change Projection Research (ICliP) JAMSTEC is soliciting applications for a Scientist or a Technical Scientist, who will take part in the third medium-term plan.
Details of the research at ICliP can be found at http://www.jamstec.go.jp/iccp/e/
The department for Integrated Climate Change Projection Research (ICliP) aims to enhance our understanding of mechanisms for variation in the atmosphere and oceans, including the hydrological and biogeochemical cycles. It also aims to evaluate the impact of human activities on such mechanisms and to contribute to society by conveying knowledge obtained through the studies. The main research tools include a general circulation model (GCM) for the atmosphere and oceans, and an Earth system model (ESM). The ESM was developed by extending the GCM to incorporate biogeochemical processes. We are recruiting for the positions of Scientist or Technical Scientist to perform research using these models and to participate in the development of the GCM and ESM.
A successful applicant is expected to be involved in the development of the GCM and/or the ESM, improving the models' reproducibility and credibility in projection, with a particular focus on the polar regions and cryosphere. Examples include ice sheetocean interactions, release of methane or carbon dioxide from degraded permafrost, and other phenomena relevant for climate projection. Skills in FORTRAN, UNIX shell scripts and standard visualization software for these areas of research are required.
