Tenure track position in Quantum Technology
The joint position between VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Aalto University will be located at the Department of Applied Physics (http://physics.aalto.fi) in the Aalto University School of Science. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd is one of the leading research and technology organisations in Europe. VTT has a national mandate in Finland. We use our research and knowledge to provide expert services for our domestic and international customers and partners. Much of the related research at Aalto University is focused on condensed matter and materials physics, on quantum physics and nano-optics, and on advanced energy sciences. The physics community at Aalto University and VTT befits from cutting-edge research infrastructure (Otanano) and facilities located at the Otaniemi Campus, including Micronova Nanofabrication Centre, Nanomicroscopy Centre and Low Temperature Laboratory.
Throughout their career, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances of their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field.
We invite applications for a tenure track position in quantum technology, with focus areas in experimental research on sensors and devices including possible applications of superposition and entanglement as well as research and development of applied solid-state devices and systems for quantum technologies. The research field should cover quantum sensors, quantum information, (e.g., quantum computation, simulation and cryptography) and/or enabling solid-state platforms for quantum technologies, such as, superconducting devices, CMOS, NEMS/MEMS and photonics devices and systems. Research areas with connections to technology and applications are welcomed. The successful candidate is expected to conduct an outstanding independent research program that complements the existing research efforts in Aalto University and at VTT in these areas.
All tenure track levels are considered in the recruitment (Assistant, Associate and Full Professor). We look for applicants who have
- A doctorate in physics or in a related field;
- Potential to carry out research and attract research funding at the highest level;
- Willingness to be effective teachers in the undergraduate and graduate degree programs of the School of Science.
The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their merits in research, teaching,academic/technological leadership, and activity in scientific community including R&D. At the Assistant Professor level, evaluation is based mainly on research merits but also on the applicant’s potential. Aalto University follows the salary system of the Finnish universities, but applicants can also provide their own requests. The annual total workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1624 hours. The position will be located at the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus.
