Laboratory:

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the recently established laboratory of Dr. Ashutosh Dharap at the Neuroscience Institute at JFK Medical Center. Our research focuses on understanding the functions of noncoding RNAs - particularly long noncoding RNAs and microRNAs - in modulating gene expression changes and pathophysiological outcomes during cerebral ischemia (stroke). We utilize rodent models, mammalian cell culture and a wide array of cellular and molecular methodologies such as microarray, next-gen sequencing, PCR, real-time PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation, in situ hybridization, gene knockdown, and bioinformatics. Position Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in studying the molecular mechanisms underlying gene expression regulation by noncoding RNAs during ischemic stroke. The candidate must be experienced in mouse/rat models of stroke and be able to perform middle cerebral artery occlusion surgery independently. Related surgical experience such as stereotaxic injections into the brain and transcardial perfusion will be viewed favorably. Proficiency in basic molecular and cell biology techniques is expected. He/she should have strong communication skills in English and be able to write technical reports, manuscripts and related material independently for presentation in journals and at conferences.

Education:

Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field is required.

Training in RIP, ChIP, RNAi screening, and microarray or next-generation sequencing methodologies is a plus.

Application Instructions:

Please email a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests and goals (can be included as a paragraph in the application email) and contact information for three references to: Dr. Ashutosh Dharap, adharap@jfkhealth.org
