Research Fellow in Chemical Engineering

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Ref: 17/105712

Available until 31 August 2018, the successful post holder will undertake research in the area of pre-treatment of lingo-cellulosic feedstock to make it amenable for further conversion to energy & materials via anaerobic digester (AD). The focus of research will be pre-treatment of AD feed streams via advanced oxidation processes like hydrodynamic cavitation. The research will focus on using phenomena of cavitation & its interaction with pre-treatment of biomass, demonstrating the concept on a laboratory scale and design and development of cavitation devices suitable for pre-treating biomass at field scale. A thorough knowledge of advanced oxidation processes, quantification of hydroxyl radicals generated during the process and their interaction with lignocellulosic biomass will be essential.
