PhD student Safety and geometric road design implications of connected and autonomous vehicles
Integrated safety approach is considered as a systematic approach in which the transportation system should accommodate itself to cope with the psychological and physical limitations of its users. Technological advances in the field of connected and autonomous vehicles (CV/AVs) are promising tools to achieve this goal. In this proposal we will investigate the road safety benefits of vehicle connectivity applications and potential safety and geometric design implications of autonomous vehicles (AV). To this end, microsimulation models and driving simulator experiments are foreseen as methodological tools.
