Translational Vascular and Microvascular Biophysics

The Department of Medical Biophysics, within the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, invites applications for a full-time probationary (tenure-track) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin on July 1, 2018.  This position will have a research focus on vascular and/or microvascular function under conditions of health, disease and elevated disease risk, with excellent potential for developing translational collaborations within our evolving group.  The position is intended for those at the Assistant Professor rank, although exceptional candidates will be considered at higher ranks as appropriate.  The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of Medical Biophysics in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

The position will fit into a growing initiative in translational vascular and microvascular science, involving investigators from Western’s Departments of Medical Biophysics, Physiology and Pharmacology, Kinesiology, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Epidemiology & Biostatistics and multiple clinical departments including Medical Imaging.   The successful applicant will have expertise that can span two of the following approaches to vascular and microvascular science:

  1. Computational/modeling of vascular/microvascular function
  2. Basic science approaches using appropriate models of health or disease
  3. Clinical/human subject research approaches into health, disease or interventional strategies

Applicants must possess an MD/PhD or PhD degree in Biophysics, Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related discipline, and exhibit a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, with a high degree of potential for garnering independent grant support and participating in translational research teams. The applicant must have demonstrated a potential for developing innovative approaches within a collaborative research environment and a minimum of three years of relevant postdoctoral research experience.  Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Our departmental website (http://www.schulich.uwo.ca/biophysics/) describes our collaborative research-intensive environment involving over 100 graduate students and 70 principal investigators from the University and its affiliated research institutes across the city of London: Lawson Health Research Institute, Robarts Research Institute, the Biomedical Imaging Research Centre and our affiliated hospitals.
