You develop an internationally competitive research programme in the area of quantum chemistry.
Your research activities can be oriented towards fundamental or methodological aspects of quantum chemistry, but they may also focus on applications of ab initio computational chemistry for the predictions of properties and reactivity of (bio)molecules, nano-scaled objects, or materials.
Research experience that is complementary with that of the other members of the division, the department, the faculty and the Group of Science, Engineering & Technology is desirable.
You build a research group of international level and collaborate with other research groups of the Department of Chemistry, the Faculty of Science and internationally.
You supervise PhD students, acquire resources for research and publish at the highest scientific level.
You deliver high-quality chemistry teaching in educational programmes of the Group of Science, Engineering and Technology as well as the other groups of the university, with a clear commitment for the quality of the programme as a whole. A particular responsibility is to contribute to teaching theoretical and computational chemistry, through the Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling.
You also contribute to the pedagogic project of the faculty and the university through the supervision of bachelor and master theses and as a promoter of PhD students.
You develop your teaching in accordance with KU Leuven's vision on activating and research-based education and make use of the possibilities for the educational professionalization offered by the faculty and the university.
Besides the responsibilities for research and for teaching, you are expected to be willing to provide services to the community, at the level of the department, the faculty, and beyond, depending on requirements and your personal interests.
