Context

Within the Environmental Health Group complex 3D- in vitro models for toxicological testing are developed, validated under laboratory conditions and applied to a wide range of contaminants, from chemicals to nanomaterials. In addition a set of invertebrate-based assays for ecotoxicological testing are established. These models are applied and further developed within nationally and internationally funded research projects and in collaborative research projects with industry.


Description

The Senior Technician provides day-to-day technical support to RDI projects and service delivery activities based on more or less complex protocols, diagnose and solve technical problems and give guidance to more junior technicians.


In this context, she/he carries-out technical day-to-day activities and ensures maintenance, diagnose and solve technical problems


Concretely, the main missions of the open position are:


  • Ensure the maintenance of the various cell lines

  • Perform 3D in vitro cell culture experiments

  • Sample preparation and analysis of samples (biochemical, molecular biological methods)

  • Support for ecotoxicological experiments

Profile
Education
  • The candidate has preferably a diploma corresponding to an MSc in biology, cell biology or a related field

Competencies
  • It is expected that the candidate has experience with cell-culture and is able to use the relevant equipment present within the ERIN Department: e.g. cell culture, microscopes, various exposure systems for cell exposure, DNA/RNA extraction, real-time PCR and to support the culture of several invertebrate model organisms and ecotoxicological experiments

  • The candidate should have relevant expertise in cell culture

  • Knowledge in 3D cell cultures will be an asset

  • Analysis of relevant endpoints for in vitro toxicity studies

  • Reporting of experimental data

Language
  • The candidate must be able to communicate in English

  • Knowledge of French is an asset
