Research Assistant - PhD candidate - STEM-CVD
IMDEA Materials (Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies of Materials) is a non-profit, independent research institute, promoted by the Regional Government de Madrid (Spain), to carry out research in Materials Science and Engineering. IMDEA Materials Institute is committed to excellence in research by attracting talent from all over the world and to foster technology transfer to the industrial sector in a truly international environment. More information about the activities of the Institute can be found at: http://www.materials.imdea.org
The Multifunctional Nanocomposites Groups is looking for a PhD student to work in the research project STEM (structural energy harvesting composite composites) funded by an ERC Starting Grant.
The research activities will be focused on the synthesis of carbon nanotubes by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and assembly as a continuous macroscopic fibre, as well as its characterization by advanced electron microscopy, spectroscopy and WAXS-SAXS.
The candidate will develop strategies for molecular control of these fibres, including implementing equipment to monitor the catalytic reaction in-situ during CNT growth, building on the group's expertise in CNT type control and chirality studies on kilometer-long CNT fibres.
