A postdoctoral research position is available to develop new neuromodulation paradigms to treat urinary tract dysfunction following spinal cord injury. Investigations will take place at the Applied Neural Interfaces Laboratory in Florida International University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, which is housed in the College of Engineering and Computing and the Academic Health Centers. The PI will work closely with the postdoctoral scholar in a dynamic, collaborative lab environment to develop the project and help the trainee achieve their career goals.

The position entails developing a closed-loop neural stimulation system in a chronic behaving animal model of disease with the goal of laying the foundations for a prototype treatment to alleviate the lower urinary tract failures that commonly result from spinal injuries. The postdoctoral scholar will lead the development of the closed-loop system, data analysis efforts, assist in experiment design, assist in surgical techniques, and participate in guiding the overall intellectual direction of the project. The position will allow the postdoctoral researcher the opportunity to creatively develop new solutions to challenging problems related to peripheral nerve stimulation and neurourology using cutting-edge hardware developed by our industrial partners and collaborators at FIU, as well as develop new animal models of disease. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, physiology, or a related field and have experience with chronic animal models. For information about this and other related projects see: https://anil.fiu.edu/.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply by email directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Zachary Danziger (Zachary.Danziger@fiu.edu), with a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information for at least 3 references. The application period is now open, and will continue on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The earliest start date for the position is July of 2017.
