Postdoc and Senior Scientist II
Structural biology & Cell biology Positions
A Postdoctoral position and a Senior Scientist II position are available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Gentry (https://biochemistry.med.uky.edu/users/msge222) in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Biochemistry and Center for Structural Biology in the College of Medicine at University of Kentucky. Dr. Gentry received a NIH program project grant and NSF grant to fund these positions. The NIH grant established the Lafora Epilepsy Cure Initiative at the University of Kentucky and Dr. Gentry is PI of this award. One position focuses on structural biology/biochemistry and the other on cell biology/biochemistry. The successful candidate will carry out an independent project on the mechanisms of Lafora disease and neurodegeneration focusing on an E3 ubiquitin ligase and phosphatase, and/or proteins involved in reversible (de)phosphorylation of plant starch. The lab has a strong record of high impact papers with recent publications in Molecular Cell, The Plant Cell, and PNAS. Structural applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology, protein purification, enzyme assays, and protein crystallization; experience with x-ray diffraction, x-ray collection, and x-ray crystal structure determination is a plus, but not required. The lab also employs AUC, SEC-SAXS and H/DXMS. Cell biology/biochemistry applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology, IF, IHC, Western analysis, and enzyme assays; experience with phosphorylation, ubiquitination, and/or a mouse colony are pluses. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual with good communication skills, will have a proven publication record, and the ability to work independently. The applicant must currently have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related field. The appointment will be for 1 year with renewal up to 5 years and a salary of $48,000 for the postdoctoral position and salary commiserate with experience for the Scientist II position.
Email a single PDF containing a CV, 1-2 page summary of past research accomplishments, and contact information for three references to Dr. Gentry with the subject heading “postdoc” or “Scientist II”.
