Sr. Manager/Associate Director, Financial Planning & Analysis

Position Summary

The Senior Manager/Associate Director is a key member of the Financial Planning and Analysis team. Reporting to the Head of FP&A, this position will serve as a business partner to the Venture organization and support a growing portfolio of development candidates. This position will partner with venture leadership and program teams to manage annual operating budgets and forecasts, month-end close and reporting activities, long range planning, portfolio management process for new development candidates, as well as other ad-hoc operational or strategic decision making support.


  • Understanding the financial needs and drivers of discovery and development programs in the Ventures; provide both operational and strategic financial support to drive the business
  • Collaborate across finance, venture leadership and program teams to develop annual budgets, forecast updates and long range financial plans
  • Support emerging development candidates (DCs) with business case analysis (e.g. cost to next decision, life of program costs, eNPV valuation) for DC nomination & approval process
  • Provide month-end reporting to venture leadership; present key insights or trends that require attention and enable venture leadership to manage to established budgets
  • Serve as primary finance lead for external partnerships/collaborations with respective ventures; support reporting, invoicing and planning to satisfy collaboration agreement requirements
  • Assist accounting operations team during month-end close with venture/program related accruals (e.g. preclinical or clinical studies) and receiving of services as well as annual audit
  • Manage day-to-day purchase requisition approvals and resolve ad-hoc invoicing issues
  • Drive continuous improvement within the finance organization to streamline processes and improve communication and flow of information to the business


  • BA/BS in accounting or finance required; MBA strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis in the life sciences industry; discovery through phase 3 experience a plus
  • Great communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details; ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills; highly proficient in Excel based modeling
  • Experience with tier 1 ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle) and associated planning and reporting tools preferred
