Virginia Commonwealth University Microscopy Core Director

OPEN FACULTY RANK

F16480

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine invites applications for a faculty position to be offered at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in a tenure-eligible track. The successful candidate will have broad experience in the development and/or application of modern microscopic methods, preferably in the context of a program of externally-funded original research. In addition to research, a key responsibility will be to provide directorial oversight for an institutionally designated Microscopy Core Facility containing state-of-the-art confocal, super-resolution, multi-photon, scanning and transmission electron microscopes. Duties as director will include oversight of imaging technicians associated with the facility.

The successful candidate will have a primary appointment in a School of Medicine department most suited to his or her research focus, and will be expected to engage in independent and/or collaborative externally-funded research. He or she will participate in the training of faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and students conducting research. Applicants must possess a PhD, DMV, MD, or equivalent degree and have appropriate post-doctoral training, with emphasis on the use and application of modern imaging tools. The ideal candidate will be experienced in directing an imaging facility, with a track record of grant submissions to support original research and procure multi-user imaging equipment. Experience with both advanced light and EM modalities is a strongly preferred qualification. Candidates will have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or will commit to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

The salary and start-up package offered for this position are competitive. Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, name, address, email address and telephone number of three professional references, and a statement indicating their background and abilities in the area of modern imaging, while also detailing their research interests and goals at http://www.vcujobs.com. Direct inquiries to Michael Donnenberg MD, Senior Associate Dean for Research and Research Training, VCU School of Medicine, Michael.Donnenberg@vcuhealth.org. Applications will be reviewed beginning April 28, 2017, and will be considered until the position is filled.

VCU is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Women, minorities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
