Position Summary

We seek a talented, experienced and motivated Scientist to assist in developing the preclinical data package to support advancement of Moderna's mRNA technology platform and pipeline. The successful candidate is an accomplished hands-on cellular and molecular pharmacologist who will make a significant contributions to the design and execution of preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies in the area of rare diseases.  He/she will drive the preclinical in vitro and vivo pharmacology effort to validate the potential of novel mRNA therapeutics for the rare disease therapeutic area.  The ability to effectively communicate with internal team members and external partners is required.


  • Develop all necessary in vitro/ex vivo assays to measure RNA levels, expressed protein levels and in depth functionality of new therapeutics mRNAs
  • Design  and execute in vivo preclinical studies using rodent models of rare diseases
  • Execute and troubleshoot standard protocols, adapt new protocols into practice with little assistance, and query literature to incorporate additional assays as needed
  • Independently plan experiments
  • Deliver rigorous results in aggressive timelines
  • Closely collaborate with other members within the research group and broadly with departments throughout the company
  • Analyze, interpret and present data to internal parties


  • MS with 5+ year of experience or PhD with 2+ years of experience, preferably in industry setting
  • Extensive knowledge/understanding of pathways and MOAs involved in rare diseases initiation and progression   
  • Extensive knowledge in rare disease rodent models
  • Hand-on experience  with in vitro and  ex vivo  assays
  • Hand-on experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques
  • Demonstrated successful and substantial work in the rare or metabolic disease area, as attested by peer-reviewed publications
  • Familiarity with disease biomarkers assessment
  • Hands-on experience with LCMS, GCMS and LC-MSMS
