We are currently recruiting an Associate Director, Global Marketing Pneumoconjugate Vaccine to support market development and to lead commercial input for our pneumococcal conjugate vaccine candidate.

The pneumococcal market is the largest vaccine market. Revenues in 2016 were ~ $6B. Merck’s pneumoconjugate vaccine (V114) is an important development program with the potential for an unambiguous promotable advantage over existing interventions.

Reporting to the Global Marketing Director, Pneumoconjugate Vaccine, the Associate Director will be responsible for developing commercial input and market development plans to support a successful product launch. The role will require integration across all aspects of Merck’s business – Global Human Health Vaccines, Merck Research Laboratory (CORE, Clinical, Regulatory, and BioProcess) as well as Merck Manufacturing Division. The position is based in Upper Gwynedd, PA.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Lead early vaccine commercial planning by working effectively with Merck Research Laboratory, Merck Manufacturing Division, and cross-functional partners as appropriate

- Lead market research efforts to enhance market and competitor insight and to inform the development of Merck Customer & Brand Marketing tools to guide strategic alternatives and choices

- Lead commercial coordination and planning of medical and scientific affairs efforts

- Work with internal centers of excellence to generate data to communicate value of Merck Vaccines and maximize access, pricing, and contracting strategies

- Lead the development of commercial forecasts and input in to long term planning, including scenarios that anticipate various potential policy and competitive environments

- Partner with Merck's Research & Manufacturing Divisions to provide input on commercial needs, identifying creative solutions that both address scientific/manufacturing challenges and optimize commercial success

- Develop global commercial input to clinical programs anticipating customer needs, competition, and considering the impact of choices across current and future indications as well as inline vaccine franchises



- Required: BA/BS

- Preferred: MBA


- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in marketing/marketing support or managed care position


- Intellectual curiosity about all aspects of our customers and business with a strong desire to persist in finding opportunities to maximize our business and anticipate scenarios

- Demonstrated ability to seamlessly work with data (financial, epidemiology, etc.) to identify alternative approaches, weigh tradeoffs, and build logical/persuasive arguments for recommended option

- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and flexibility to adapt new information into recommended strategies

- Capability to not only recommend strategy, but importantly to communicate logical rationale for selection of recommendation vis a vis viable alternatives

- Ability to incorporate information from a variety of sources to shape recommendations

- High aptitude for innovation and strategic thinking

- Entrepreneurial mindset focused on achieving goals in rapid and cost efficient manner

- Strong project management skills

- Experience in marketing strategy development, launching products and/or new indications

- Experience in range of commercial roles (science point, physician promotion point, strategy point, etc.)

- Vaccine market experience and global cultural awareness with ability to anticipate market trends and make recommendations that reflect where the market will be at launch

- Experience interfacing cross- functionally, and/or experience working with countries

- New product market development/launch experience
