Postdoctoral Scientist - Virology & Immunology
Postdoctoral scientist position in Virology & Immunology available at Texas Biomedical Research Institute located in San Antonio, Texas. Duties will include training and working at BSL-4, production of virus and virion-like particles of filo or arenaviruses and their use in analysis of cell invasion. This work will involve performing microscopy of viruses interacting with cells, staining cells with antibodies against cell proteins, cultivating and isolating plasmid DNA, performing assays for inhibition of virus infection by small molecules, siRNA or CRISPR technology and their validation of immunoblots, qRT-PCR and other appropriate techniques. This position will report to Dr. Robert Davey.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: REQUIRED: Ph.D. or DVM with specialty in microbiology, biochemistry or cell biology. Must pass FBI background check required for work with select agents and be able to work in a BSL4 laboratory. Have evidence of experience through first author publications in peer reviewed journals. Have good communication and critical thinking skills. PREFERRED: Three to four years’ experience working with viruses and fluorescence microscopy. Demonstrated use of siRNA or CRISPR technology, and molecular and biochemical techniques for understanding cell function using immortalized and primary cell types. Experience working in BSL3 or BSL4 environments.
OTHER: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position. Texas Biomed business hours are Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screen is required.
