Noninvasive Brain Stimulation (TMS) and Neuroimaging
The Intramural Research Program of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is recruiting for two Postdoctoral Fellows to join an interdisciplinary group of scientists in its Neuroimaging Research Branch (NRB). The positions are dedicated to understanding the neurobiological mechanisms underlying transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in both human and preclinical models. Position #1 will focus on the acute and chronic effects of TMS on human brain circuits (e.g., functional connectivity, DTI) and neurotransmitters (e.g., glutamate and GABA levels) using coupled TMS, MRI and EEG. Position #2 will focus on cellular- and systems-level plasticity of TMS and its potential therapeutic value in drug addiction using well-established rodent models. Research tools include fMRI, electrophysiology and optical imaging. This position will have ample opportunities to collaborate with NIDA scientists on advanced cell biology and behavior models. The NRB has a research dedicated 3T Siemens MRI scanner and a 9.4T Bruker animal MRI scanner, and TMS stimulation devices with custom coils for humans and small animals. The NRB also has full computational hardware and software for imaging data processing and analysis. NIH multi-array computer facilities are available for high intensity computation. The successful candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience or a related field. Experience with MRI and/or TMS is desirable, but not required.
