PhD student - Evaluating Global Food Systems Sustainability
We are looking for a candidate who is highly motivated to work in a project that aims to assess the current status and future scenarios of global food system sustainability through nutrition, environmental, economic and social dimensions. The project aims to improve existing or develop new sustainability evaluation methods and apply them to global food systems databases and future projections to identify areas of improvement for different countries and regions.

The candidate will carry out environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) of individual food items as well as work on developing methodologies to quantify the food production impacts on several environmental categories such as biodiversity. The project will also involve analyzing the price and sales data of food commodities and evaluate the global dietary intake from a nutritional and human health impacts perspective.

The candidate should have excellent academic qualifications, writing skills, strong self-motivation and ability to work in fast-paced interdisciplinary environment. Strong statistical, computer programming and big data analysis skills are necessary qualifications for the position. Experience in quantitative sustainability assessment and mathematical modelling of environmental systems will be considered a plus. The successful candidate must have a Master degree (or equivalent) in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Statistics or a closely-related area. Candidates with knowledge of ArcGIS and MATLAB will be given priority.
