The immunology discovery research group at Lilly's Biotechnology Center in San Diego seeks a Ph.D. level scientist with deep knowledge and research experience in immunology and autoimmunity to join a team responsible for developing novel therapeutics for the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Activities include target identification and validation, discovery of therapeutic compounds with an understanding of mechanism of action and biomarker strategies. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated team player, with a passion for scientific research and drug discovery, and possessing a broad knowledge of immunologic signaling pathways, to drive preclinical discovery of novel therapeutics for Lilly's Immunology Portfolio.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize established, as well as develop novel analytical approaches at the cell and molecular level to understand the impact of pharmacologic agents on immune cell function and signaling.
  • Collaborate within Lilly within cross-functional teams as well as with external partners to identify and select validated targets for the initiation of drug discovery programs.
  • Remain tightly connected to the external academic and biopharma communities to source ideas, collaborations and technologies to drive novel target and molecule discovery.
  • Serve as a source of state-of-the-art scientific knowledge in either the field of immune tolerance mechanisms and T regulatory cells or the immunologic synapse and subsequent lymphocyte signaling.
  • Record, analyze and communicate scientific ideas and data to governance committees, managers and project teams with clear interpretation of hypotheses and results.
Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Pharmacology or related area with at least 1 year of postdoctoral research experience.
Additional Skills/Preferences
  • Has deep expertise in working in vitro with primary human/rodent tissues and cells, and experience with various autoimmune/inflammatory animal disease models.
  • Knowledge and experience in investigating immune cellular interaction and receptor signaling/function for cell-cell interactions and immune responses.
  • Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature, identify and validate potential targets and develop strategic approaches to research and projects.
  • Expertise in cellular/molecular immunology of human and animal immune systems, particularly in immune tolerance or the immunologic synapse.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology with experience in various autoimmune and inflammatory animal disease models.
  • Track record of scientific success demonstrated by authorship on high quality publications in top tier peer-reviewed journals, and/or patents.
