The University of Toledo (UT) seeks a dynamic and engaged leader and educator to serve as the Dean of the College of Engineering (Dean). The Dean is the chief executive and academic officer of the College, and will provide strategic leadership and vision in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and other key internal and external stakeholders.

The College of Engineering is home to six academic departments and also a host to an online practice-oriented Master of Science in Engineering program. In addition to the academic departments and programs, the Dean oversees the Center for Materials and Sensor Characterization and the Polymer Institute. The College has nearly $8M in annual sponsored research expenditures. The College of Engineering operates under an incremental budget process and has an operating budget of about $18M. There are 3,665 undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the College.

The College of Engineering has strong ties to local and regional industry through its signature mandatory Co-op program for undergraduate students. In addition to the co-op program, there are a number of research connections with industry. Examples of current sponsors of research include Bell Helicopter Textron, AVS Aerospace, Teledyne Turbine Engines, Pratt and Whitney, GM, and Chrysler. Many of these collaborations have been active for multiple years. The College also has connections to research partners such as NASA, Department of Transportation, Department of Defense, NAVAIR (U.S. Naval Air Systems Command), Environmental Protection Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Energy, Department of Commerce, National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation. Major research areas for the College of Engineering include aviation & aerospace, defense, water quality/environment, spinal & joint, transportation, and renewable energy.

The new Dean will empower the faculty to achieve prominence in scholarly research in engineering, focusing on increasing the College's research profile and supporting faculty in seeking funding opportunities. They will continue to support a strong tradition of undergraduate education and engagement by investing in the Co-op program on campus, and will also pay special attention to recruitment and retention of graduate students. The Co-op program offers undergraduate students the opportunity for a deep immersion in applied skills through engaging with industry. The Dean will also be responsible for ongoing fundraising efforts. The Dean reports to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Andrew Hsu, and sits on his leadership council together with the other Deans and senior academic leaders of the University.

The Provost has formed a search committee chaired by Karen Bjorkman, Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
