Post-Doctoral position in bioinformatics
We seek highly qualified individuals to conduct next-generation sequencing (NGS) studies focused on mosquito-borne viruses (for example Zika virus, chikungunya virus, and West Nile virus). The candidate will work closely with laboratory personnel investigating host-pathogen interactions, specifically insect immunity to arthropod-borne viruses. These multi-disciplinary studies will include the comprehensive analysis of RNA-seq and small RNA sequencing data. In addition to expertise in NGS data analysis, Ideal candidates will have previous experience conducting research in the areas of immunity or host-pathogen interactions, preferably with a mosquito or Drosophila model. This position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kevin Myles in the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Virology, Microbiology, Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field, and demonstrated experience with bioinformatic and statistical software for the analysis of sequencing data. Preferred special knowledge includes proficiency with a programming language such as Python or Perl, and/or statistical analysis packages such as R.
