Post-Doctoral Associate in Biomaterials, materials science
The post-doctoral associate will conduct mentored research directed at the design, fabrication, and physicochemical and biological characterization of biomaterials for implants, restorations, and regenerative medicine in biomedical applications with a focus on hard tissues; i.e., dentin, bone, and enamel. The gain in knowledge and development of processes that will change the physical, chemical, and biological properties of tissue and biomaterials interfaces using synthetic biomolecules (oligopeptides, recombinant biopolymers, etc.) to improve life in service of restorations, implant integration and/or hard tissue regeneration is the main goal of this project. This position is to contribute to NIH-NIDCRfunded research in Professor Conrado Aparicio’s lab at the MDRCBB and Department of Restorative Sciences of the University of Minnesota.
Duties will include design and characterization of synthetic biomolecules; (bio)chemical techniques to functionalize material/tissue surfaces; physicochemical and mechanical characterization of surface and bulk properties of the obtained materials. Molecular, cell biology, and bioimaging techniques can be a complementary part of the project. The associate is expected to maintain a well-organized lab notebook, develop proficiency in relevant literature in this research area, be involved in the preparation of first- and co-authored manuscripts as well as research proposals, and make presentations at professional meetings.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
The project is expected to be completed in 2 years.

PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physicochemistry or Biochemistry.
Excellent record keeping skills and ability to work independent and in a team. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Experience in biomineralization, colloidal science, cell/materials interactions and/or advanced surface/interface design, fabrication and characterization.
Experience in scientific writing and proof of work in form of manuscripts as a contributing or co-author.
