Staff Scientist/Assistant Professors

The New York Blood Center is inviting applications at Staff scientist and/or Assistant Professor levels with an interest in nonmalignant hematology. Specific areas of interest include investigating disease mechanisms in platelet and red cell disorders, development of novel immunotherapies as well as stem cell methodologies related to stem cell expansion/transplantation. The successful candidates are expected to establish a productive, extramurally funded research program and collaborate with other research scientists across NYBC to drive early discovery research programs into early clinical development.

Areas of specific interest:

Platelet Biology: To investigate platelet activation mechanisms in platelet disorders and hematologic diseases. Training in platelet function is a requirement; experience and expertise in human and/or mouse models of hemostasis/thrombosis are highly preferred.

Iron Biology: To investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms of iron homeostasis in health and disease. Expertise and experience in human and/or mouse models of iron-driven metabolic or hematological disorders are highly preferred.

Stem Cell/Progenitor Biology: To investigate mechanisms of stem cell expansion and differentiation of pluripotent stem cells to terminally differentiated cells.  Training in stem cell biology and processing either in primary human cells or mouse models is a requirement. Expertise with human stem cell expansion protocols and/or and other stem cell manipulations are highly desirable.

Immunology/Immunotherapy: To investigate mechanisms of immune mediated pathogenesis including autoimmune, and inflammatory diseases, with focus on discovering and developing innovative cellular-based therapies to treat these diseases. Experience in immunology, autoimmunity, immunotherapy and/or responses to immunotherapy in human or preclinical in vivo models are essential.

Requirements include PhD and/or MD, with 4-5 years of postdoctoral training. The candidate must have demonstrated record of high impact research, a strong scholarly record, and demonstrate the ability to establish and sustain a well-funded research program. A history of working with multi-disciplinary team is preferred.
