This position is within the Protein Optimization Team of Biotechnology Discovery Research, which is responsible for generating, characterizing, and optimizing biotherapeutics from lead generation to lead optimization and preclinical development.
We are seeking a motivated research associate with a BS or MS degree in biochemistry or related field to join our talented multidisciplinary team focused on optimizing protein biotherapeutics.
  • Responsible for purifying proteins and antibodies for protein engineering and structure/function analysis.
  • Characterizing biopharmaceutical properties using biochemical, analytical and biophysical techniques towards the identification and mitigation of developability risks.
  • Experience in the use of site-directed mutagenesis to modify protein structure-function is important.
  • Possess strong core competency in protein biochemistry, with experience in molecular biology, purification, and protein characterization.
  • Expected to engage in cross-disciplinary efforts across discovery and development.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:
  • Purifying proteins using multiple chromatographic techniques;
  • Characterizing protein structure and stability using various biochemical/analytical/biophysical methods;
  • Characterizing protein: protein interactions;
  • Working in multifunctional teams;
  • Presenting experimental data at team meetings.
Basic Qualifications
  • A BS with 3+ years of research experience or MS degree in protein biochemistry or related field is required.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
Additional Skills/Preferences
  • Hands-on experience in cloning, purification, and characterization of proteins.
  • Capability of independently designing experiments, generating data, interpreting results and documenting work.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, self management, task planning and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience in cell culture and in vitro functional cell based assays would be helpful.
