Postdoctoral Associate - "Hormel Fellow"

The Hormel Institute, a biomedical research center of the University of Minnesota, was established in 1942 and has a long reputation in producing world class medical research. The Institute's research success has resulted in a second major expansion of its research facilities and includes a new state of the art laboratory building and complete renovation of existing research facilities. The Hormel Institute offers its research scientists complete access to state of the art equipment that includes a Titan Krios Cryo-Electron Microscope (Cryo-EM), FACS cell sorter, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, protein crystallography robotics and diffraction system, CTO-EM, nano-HPLC-AB SCIEX triple TOF 5600 mass spectrometry, and a Blue Gene/L and 3 racks of Linux GPU supercomputers for computational biology, ITC and SPR.

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher (MD, PhD or MD/PhD, MBBS/PhD) with an interest and experience in the field of cancer research to join the Section of Molecular Therapeutics and Cancer Disparity under the mentorship of Dr. M. Saleem (Bhat).  The Candidate should exhibit excellent communication (oral and writing) skills. Importantly, candidates with a proven record of peer-reviewed publications (as first author) in international journals would be given preference for this position. The candidate should have an ability to work independently and as part of a team. The candidate should have expertise in general laboratory techniques (electrophoresis, human tissue culture, plasmid transformation, transfection, immunohistochemistry, florescence microscopy, and animal model experimentation). The candidate should be well-versed in the subjects of basic biochemistry, molecular biology and cancer biology. In addition, the candidates with experience in molecular docking, ITC, SPR and pharmaceutical chemistry (chemical synthesis or modification) will be given preference.  The selected candidate will be provided a competitive salary package with full benefits from the University of Minnesota (

This position will be required to participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of research projects; to define and solve scientific problems; carry out laboratory experiments; develop experimental procedures; collect and analyze data; and prepare manuscripts for publication.
